Há mais de 4 mil anos na China, vários contorcionistas e equilibristas apresentavam-se para as autoridades monárquicas. Do antigo Egipto existem também vestígios de actividade circense em hieróglifos mostrando domadores, equilibristas, malabaristas e contorcionistas. O circo mostra-se então uma arte milenar que perdura até aos tempos de hoje. Este trabalho, Circus, traduz-se numa série de retratos efectuados nos locais destes circos tradicionais, que até hoje ainda conseguem ser o sustento de várias famílias. Revelam os seus artistas e os locais onde simultaneamente vivem e trabalham, retratando um universo único e peculiar que é o mundo do circo.

More than 4 thousand years ago in China, there were contortionists and acrobats that presented themselves to the monarchical authorities. As well as in ancient Egypt where traces of circus activities in hieroglyphs demonstrates tamers, acrobats, jugglers and contortionists. Therefore, the circus presents itself as an ancient art that lasts until nowadays. This project, Circus, is a series of prints elaborated at this local tradicional circuses, which are the subsistence of several families. They reveal the artists and the places where they both live and work, portraying an unique and peculiar universe that is the circus’ world.
